In-Person Field Class Moved Online Lead to Virtual Field Trips

The pandemic has moved almost all UCLA courses online including field-based classes. For UCLA’s EEB87: California’s eDNA class, students were no longer able to go to biweekly field trips and collect eDNA samples. This fall quarter’s education team has been hard at work testing site reception and technology to provide an innovative virtual approach to field experiences. CALeDNA researchers and students are working together to find ways to keep attendees safe, engaged, and most of all excited about environmental DNA and their ecosystems.
